The building is located in the historic quarter of Vilaflor, the birthplace of Brother Peter of Saint Joseph Betancur who lived in the 17th century and whose Order of Bethlehemite Brothers is entrusted with the future management of the school.
The building is intended to be used for a small nursery school comprising three units and its form evokes the archetypal image of a home as depicted in the drawings of the children. It features a pure geometry, one that is easy to interpret.
The bulk is divided into two separate bodies joined by a walkway. This produces an illuminated inner courtyard that connects the upper floors with the recreation area, an area which is covered by a half basement; in addition, this favors the integration of the building into the urban pattern one where small traditional structures abound with those that one establishes a dialogue of scale.
On the outside one finds a firm white ceramic covering whose form is quite constructive in that it offers a ventilated facade. This is very energy efficient with respect to the intensity of the local climate; this covering surrounds the entire building thus simplifying even more the perception of the building’s mass. On the inside the spaces are neutral and clear in anticipation of the colorful finishing touches that the youthful ambiance may ultimately lend it.
